Planning a getaway can be tough! Whether you’re staying close to home and doing a staycation or venturing out of town, here are 5 tips to help make it more sustainable!
PLAN OUT YOUR OUTFITS AND SEEK OUT SUSTAINABLE OPTIONS!
Think thrifted, secondhand, plant-based and recycled materials, ethically made, etc. You can also swap outfits with someone on your trip if you’re the same size! - hey @taylorrbrady
NOT SURE WHERE TO GO? I GOT YOU!
Check out your local area for a staycation, see if you can stay or swap places with a friend or family member, or maybe you know someone with a second home or condo they aren’t using (we stayed at my aunt’s vacation condo!)? Camping is great if you want to stay low cost and be with nature, but if you want more of a nicer route, look for hotels or Airbnb’s that have sustainable practices and initiatives
LOOK FOR PLANT-BASED RESTAURANTS AND VEGAN-FRIENDLY GROCERY STORES AND PLAN IN ADVANCE!
My fave way to do this is with the Happy Cow app!
EXPLORE BY FOOT, BIKE, PUBLIC TRANSPORT, OR RIDESHARE WHEN SAFE AND IF POSSIBLE!
Some things do require a car or car rental, but getting around without or with shared emissions is best!
BRING REUSABLES WITH YOU!
I bring canvas bags for groceries/shopping/farmers markets, a pop-up silicone reusable to-go container for all my leftovers at restaurants, refillable water bottle, metal utensils (always pack in your checked bag if flying or your knife snd fork will be confiscated at TSA), and 3 straws - one big silicone for smoothies, one tiny metal for cocktails, one regular size metal one for other drinks.
Do you have any getaway or staycation plans this summer?!
